How to choose your summer destination as a digital nomad?
The sun is out and summer is (almost) here! And just like many people are planning (or are already going on 😊) their summer holidays, many digital nomads might also be considering the destination where they would like to spend their summer.
Some are thinking of destinations where they can enjoy the sun while others may be trying to escape the heat and, in both cases like always, choosing a destination than be much more difficult than it seems.
And what better place to look than the list of top 100 destinations for digital nomads?
The travel search engine Kayak, had released a Remote Work Ranking of 111 countries. The ranking is especially helpful to digital nomads because it takes into consideration the remote-working conditions that a destination should fulfill in order to be an ideal choice for them.
The criteria for the ranking included 6 big categories that break into several smaller criteria, these include travel, like whether the country has a visa or not, the accommodation prices, car rental and fuel costs. As well as, the cost of living, the health and safety standards, internet speeds, the degree of spoken English, availability of activities and attractions and of course, weather conditions.
The country that got the top rank globally was Portugal. For many years, Lisbon has been a digital nomad favorite, and several other cities and islands in Portugal have taken many steps to attract remote workers, like Cascais and Madeira, which hosts the 1st digital nomad village.
The rest of the top 10 countries are mostly countries that offer digital nomad visas; this is no coincidence, as having a visa usually means that many of the criteria required to attract nomads and remote workers are already fulfilled.
Check the list and comment with the destination you would choose, and whether you agree with the ranking.
I wish you all a wonderful summer,
Andy.
