The Increase of Mid-Term Rentals For Digital Nomads
Hello everyone,
Remote work and digital nomadism are disrupting the property rental markets. We see an increasing demand/offer of mid-term rentals.
Many platforms are competing for this growing market share. You can find some of them in this motley rental listing.
From a digital nomad’s point of view, here are the features I’m looking for (when searching for a new temporary home):
Dedicated desk/study room. I always deep work from home where I’m sure not to be disturbed by anyone. To me, it requires a separate study room.
Spacious and bright flat. The accommodation you’re living in impacts your mood, success and productivity. Whether I’m going to stay for a few weeks or a few months, I always look for bright, modern and spacious accommodation. Not possible in every destination though.
A well-equipped kitchen (!). Eating healthy is one of the keys to performing well in the long run. This might be bad news for lots of people but this means cooking at home and balancing home cooking and eating out.
Central location. The accommodation should ideally be close to the coworking space, the main attractions and the activities of your interest (e.g. near to a park if you often go for runs, fitness club, dance studio, etc.)
A good bed. Sleeping well is very important. Unfortunately, getting access to a comfortable bed is a very tricky feature to check in advance. Not so many hosts are going to tell you “Look, the bed is sh*tty but the rest is fine”. Most of the time, they are not even aware they need to invest in a new mattress.
A quiet neighborhood.
Fast and stable Wi-Fi.
Attention to “detail”. The accommodation should be dedicated for daily life use. For example, this means getting access to enough wardrobes to fully empty your suitcase(s). This also means getting access to sockets near the desk.
A “great” host. It’s important to look for hosts who are reactive and thoughtful as you are going to stay in their place for a few months.
What about you?
Do you agree with the features I mentioned?
Do you have other criteria when looking for new accommodation?
